How to Fold an Origami Sugar Bowl

All 38 steps

Step 1. Start colored side up. Fold in half corner to corner behind, then unfold.

Step 2. Fold in half along the other diagonal behind, then unfold.

Step 3. Fold in half from left to right, then unfold.

Step 4. Fold in half from top to bottom, then unfold.

Step 5. Push the left and right sides in along the middle crease and flatten the paper into a triangle.

Step 6. Fold the right corner of the front layer up to the top point.

Step 7. Fold the left corner up to the top point.

Step 8. Turn the paper over.

Step 9. Fold the two corners of this side up to the top point too.

Step 10. And the other corner.

Step 11. Turn the paper over.

Step 12. Fold the right corner of the diamond in to the center line, through the layers of that side.

Step 13. Fold the left corner in the same way.

Step 14. Turn the paper over.

Step 15. Fold both corners of this side in the same way.

Step 16. And the other corner.

Step 17. Turn the paper over.

Step 18. Unfold the side corner again.

Step 19. Unfold the corner below it back down.

Step 20. Fold the two layers of that corner over toward the center along the crease.

Step 21. Push the bottom point of the folded layers up inside, so a small triangle forms.

Step 22. Fold the corner back out over the small triangle. This is a handle.

Step 23. Unfold the next side corner.

Step 24. Unfold the corner below it.

Step 25. Fold the corner over toward the center.

Step 26. Push its bottom point up inside the same way.

Step 27. Fold the corner back out to make the next handle.

Step 28. Turn the paper over.

Step 29. Unfold the next side corner.

Step 30. Unfold the corner below it.

Step 31. Fold the corner over toward the center.

Step 32. Push its bottom point up inside the same way.

Step 33. Fold the corner back out to make the next handle.

Step 34. Unfold the next side corner.

Step 35. Unfold the corner below it.

Step 36. Fold the corner over toward the center.

Step 37. Push its bottom point up inside the same way.

Step 38. Fold the corner back out to make the next handle.

Done. Hold two handles and blow into the hole at the bottom, then stand it upside down. This is the sugar bowl (Murray and Rigney, Fun with Paper Folding, 1928).
